Tanzania is divided into twenty six regions (mkoa in Swahili). Each region is subdivided into districts (wilaya in Swahili). The districts are sub-divided into divisions and wards. Urban wards are further subdivided into streets (mitaa in Swahili) and rural wards are subdivided into and villages (kijiji in Swahili). The villages are further subdivided into hamlets (vitongoji in Swahili).
